Rethinking This Credit Card
About 8 months ago I got my first credit card with a relatively low limit. It was fine - I didn't plan to use it to make big purchases. I just wanted to establish credit early on.

I would buy things, then go home and immediately pay the credit card bill for that balance at home. It was a good system because I never bought things with the credit card that I didn't have the cash to buy.

Unfortunately, this past summer, I thought I'd get a job really easily, so I started buying things I didn't have the cash for, assuming I would get a job. I actually did get a few jobs, but through random, stupid circumstances, none of them stuck. I was always able to pay my bill, but I just ended up using way more than I wanted, especially since my credit limit increased.

Now, I keep my credit card at home and I'm paying it back bit by bit. I don't have a huge amount left to pay back and I have a job so I am able to pay it back on my own, but just knowing what I did with it makes me wary of having it anymore. Once I get it all paid back, I probably won't use it at all. Maybe I'll do what I did before - just buy stuff with it that I have the cash for, but I don't even want to do that!

I use my credit card for necessary shopping or emergency use, but not on an everyday basis.

It's good you've had this experience early on. Just the thought of credit card debt makes me un easy!

That's why I've always thought debit cards are better!
