Saving Up Money
Although both of my parents encourage me to go on a trip with the organization "Student Ambassador Programs", they will not pay the $2200 plus dollars that goes along with it. That leaves me to make up for it. Even though I'm not real pleased with having to do this, I know that if I play my cards right, I could have enough money for the trip. Since I'm 15, I can't really get a job because I live a couple miles outside of town. Right now, my only job is babysitting and feeding peoples cats. Not real promising in the money category, huh?

Thankfully, when I turn 16 (in November), I am allowed to take my dad's old car as my own, giving me a chance to look for a job to help pay for my trip. I'm praying that I can get a nice job so I can make up the money for this trip. Because of this, I have to make some sacrifices. Such as, no shopping :(, no movies, or anything of that sort. Depressing, huh? But if I look on the bright side, if I get to go on the trip to Europe, I can do my shopping there and movies always come out on video. :)

I am very upset that I have to pay for my trip. But I also realize that my parents are trying to teach me the value of money.  Although its a horrible feeling to think that your parents are slowing trying to push you into the "real" world and pay for your own clothes and trips, I think it is something that we teens must go through. Especially before college :)

By the way, does anyone have any ideas how I can make some extra money for my trip? It would be a great help!

I know what you're going through! I'm going on a trip to the South Pacific next summer and I have to pay all $3000 myself. An easy way to get some money is to ask for it on any holidays. Christmas, Birthdays, Valentine's Day, tell people to forget the cds or clothes and give you cash or checks! ^_^ Also, if you have the time, you might want to start a savings account and toss your money into that. Over a few months it can raise a few bucks in interest, which isn't much but better than nothing!

(Try and get a buissness or two to sponser you part of the way, and tell them you'll wear a shirt with their logo or something. Then for however much they give you, all you have to do is make a shirt, but make sure you ask if they have a a shirt you can allready use.)

I like your article. We really all learn to pay our own way. I get an allowance each month, and I can spend it however I want, but It's the only money I get to buy clothes, movie tickets, dinner with friends, and many other things. My senior year in high school, my mom is going to give me a credit card and a checkbook and she's going to teach me how to balance a checkbook and pay some bills. You might say, "OH a credit card when your still in high school!", but it's better than going to college without any expierience. That's why most college students can't live it out in the real world. They just never learned.

i am going to Italy next June and need money to go, it will cost me about $3000 and so far i have $172. and only have about 6 months to raise the rest. I am in trouble, my parents said they would pay, but i want to raise atleast $1000, and i cannot get a job because i train for sport 6 days a week and so i wouldnt ahve time. I am working for my dad though every second weekend for half a day. If you really get desperate for money sell soem of your old CD's that you dont want, that will give you abit of extra cash.
Good Luck

i suggest u find the way to earn the money and go on the trip. its one of those once in a lifetime opportunities. i mean, take it from a person who really regrets not making the effort to go. u'll be thinking wat would have happened if i went.. thats how i am.. so go for it. if u think about it.. its sorta like going to college... u have to pay to go... one of those choices...

hey i have a tip for you to make some money for your trip w/o really putting in that much time or effort!!! You see I'm doing almost the same thing but I'm going for a whole school year which is $12,000!!! So I began asking organization in my town like rotary, kiwans, and the lyons clubs. All they ask is for you to come to one of their meeting and to tell them why you want to do this program. Well I hope this helped you a little!!!!
